Carrie began bellydancing in 2001, after losing 100 pounds. She sought to find a workout that would inspire her to keep the weight off, while not being tied to the gym. Little did she know at the time that this was just the beginning of a love affair with dance that has now spanned a decade for her. In this period of time, she has learned traditional Egyptian, ATS and ITS, and has danced in groups that have featured all these styles. Carrie is currently an active member of Exotic Rhythms Bellydance, a dance troupe based in Saint Louis, Missouri.

I had the pleasure of photographing the amazing Amel Tafsout twice in 2011. Our amazing results.
The Dancers Eye believes in beauty: Laughter is beautiful. Kindness is beautiful. Cellulite is beautiful. Softness and plumpness and roundness are beautiful. It’s more important to be interesting, to be vivid, and to be adventurous, than to sit pretty for pictures. A woman’s soft tummy is a miracle of nature. Beauty comes from tenderness. Beauty comes from variety, from specificity, from the fact that no person in the world looks exactly like anyone else. Please honor our view on beauty.
